From 1998-2000 2.7L Engines are prone to premature catastrophic engine failure due to a defectively designed Timing Chain Tensioner that Chrysler quietly redesigned. Unfortunately, many consumers have had to pay out of their own pockets for this while Chrysler avoids responsibility.

From 1998-2004 Dodge / Chrysler 2.7L Engines are prone to Oil Sludge often caused by internal coolant leakage that has to do with the design of the Water Pump that allows coolant to enter the Engine over time and cause oil sludge, experts at a well known remanufacturing company say. The second common cause of engine sludge is from poor oil circulation caused by oil passages that are too narrow causing the oil to wear down more rapidly unlike normal engines. Another contributing oil sludge factor is possibly due to an inadequately designed PCV system that can also accelerate engine oil breakdown, which Chrysler later made improvements to for the 2005 model year along with other changes knowledgeable sources state. Although Chrysler is aware and there is nothing consumers could have done to cause this, Chrysler still regularly blames consumers for 2.7L Engine Oil Sludge.

Chrysler is aware of certain problems and vulnerabilities the 2.7L Engine is prone to have and has quietly made various design changes over the years such as redesigning the Timing Chain Tensioner that was prone to premature failure in 2000, to making changes to try and prevent internal coolant leakage over time into the crankcase. For 2005, changes included improvements to the PCV system and for oil circulation, to even later increasing oil capacity by an extra quart in an attempt to make the engine more robust. Unfortunately, even with all of these modifications we have been informed of premature Dodge / Chrysler 2.7L Engine failures in 2006 Dodge, Chrysler vehicle models.

Chrysler refuses to cover prematurely failed engines even when under its own 3 Year / 36,000 mile warranty while blaming consumers for these problems. These problems are so common and so well known that extended warranty companies also decline to cover Chrysler 2.7L engines. In many cases consumers have changed or had their oil changed every 3,000 miles with name brand motor oil. Many consumers have been able to provide proof while Chrysler still refuses to cover failed 2.7L engines under warranty. It is a common misconception that sludge is caused by brand or type of motor oil since all motor oil sold must meet the same basic standards. However, if the oil was changed regularly then Chrysler might say ‘it must be the brand or type of oil you used then’. If you can prove that you used a leading motor oil, ‘where did you have it changed?’. Chrysler might then tell you they are not going to be able to cover it then because you changed your oil yourself or had it changed somewh ere else. In fact Federal Law (Magnuson-Moss Act) prohibits an automobile manufacturer to void a warranty or deny warranty claim based on using aftermarket tune up or maintenance parts, such as spark plugs or motor oil for example or 3rd party service, unless provided free of charge. There are other consumers who have followed the intervals recommended by Chrysler in their vehicle’s owners manual that state oil changes up to every 7,500 miles are acceptable in normal conditions where they’ve changed their oil every 5,000-6,000 miles only to be told ‘you didn’t change your motor oil enough and your engine failed due to neglect’. In fact, Chrysler even currently recommends oil change intervals of every 6,000 miles for normal conditions in current owners manuals. When vehicles are purchased used from dealers and used car lots where consumers often believe they have no proof of regular oil changes prior to their ownership, Chrysler typically automatically refuses warranty claim s blaming the previous owner. When a consumer has proof or reg ular 3,000 mile oil changes performed by a dealer we’ve heard of Chrysler going as far as to blame the dealer’s lube technician!

Woodward Dream Cruise memories are what MI Auto Times is having on a daily basis since its attendance at the 16th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

If last year’s Woodward Dream Cruise was a subdued nod to the auto industry surviving some of the darkest days in its history, this year’s event could be described as a triumphant bash celebrating the country’s and Detroit’s promising return to American auto manufacturing greatness.

Estimations from last year’s Dream Cruise put the attendance number at one million, but this year’s number is likely to be lower because of the rain.

Many mint-condition classic cars were present such as a 1956 Ford F1, 1931 Chrysler Roadster, Chevy Camaros from almost every single model year, the bat mobile, Pontiac GTOs, and the classic ’57 Chevy in every color combination.

Ford took over the corner of 9 Mile and Woodward with a display of Mustangs including the brand new 2012 Mustang Boss 302.

The GM Performance division was at the northwest corner of Memorial Park in Royal Oak; Chevrolet held down the 555 Triangle in Birmingham, and the Metro Detroit Buick GMC dealers held their showing at the Athens Coney Island.

MI Auto Times was impressed by a 1953 Buick parked alongside a brand new Buick Regal, a Buick GNX, a Skylark GS, an imposing brand new GMC Sierra HD, and a custom GMC 1500 among the many displayed.

The Chrysler display was at the Northwood Shopping Plaza at 13 Mile and Woodward, featuring a monster truck with Ram body crushing a four-door foreign make and the Jeep Nukizer concept.

The highlight for MI Auto Times was a caravan of more than a dozen 2011 Buick Regal GS vehicles. The overwhelming response from bystanders made it clear that it will attract new buyers Buick hasn’t seen before.

One quickly realizes there’s a lot of history in between the past and present, yet some things never change: America loves great cars, fine craftsmanship, and constantly reinventing itself.

MI Auto Times covers all Michigan automotive news all the time, featuring newly released vehicle recall information, relevant Michigan automaker news, vehicle ratings and comparisons, and everything else auto-related Michigan and world readers need to know. The Past of Hyundai

It’s not clear whether it is appropriate to say that Korean motor company had a humble start but it is certain that in American they did have a modest beginning. The company stormed the shores of the States in the 80’s with one lone model. They have weathered being the butt of many jokes to immerge a global leader. To the surprise of many the Hyundai Genesis performance is being reported to rival that of Mercedes. That is a long way from earlier comparisons to the Yugo.

When the carmaker first arrived in the west the goal was to offer an affordable vehicle. This is what the company felt was missing in the market so it is what they offered. It worked until owners of the car started to realize that the reliability of the vehicle was what was sacrificed in order to make it more affordable. The savings that once seemed so significant were quickly whittled away with the cost of constant repairs. The reputation of the company suffered dramatically from all the complaints.

This reputation did not go unnoticed by the company. In response to these issues the company started to pour money into developing the quality of the vehicles. These developments were not limited to the mechanical integrity but instead encouraged in all aspects of making and designing the car.

Today’s Hyundai

Currently the company is a world leader amongst auto manufacturers. They have a myriad of models on the market that are designed to fit a range of budgets and tastes. You can still find affordable models that are not much more reliable. However you can also try your hand at more luxury quality vehicles. That’s right luxury and they have done such a good job at it that they have been rated along side other top luxury brands like Porsche.

One model that is receiving extra attention from the media is being compared to Mercedes. Hyundai Genesis performance in safety and handling is being claimed by many sources to be the best luxury sedan in its class. It is a rear wheel drive, plush and fully loaded competitor for Lexus, Porsche, and Mercedes. All of this is hardly conceivable if you know the history of the company but study after study in consumer magazine after another is saying the same thing. This car is a leader in its class.

The progression of the company and the product has been remarkable and fairly quick. The progressive nature of the cars and the company shows little signs of slowing. They have not only taken the lead in the American market but they have taken the lead in the global market as well. What was once a car that you bought because you couldn’t afford anything else is no a car that you buy because you want to. Today’s Hyundai is one that is reliable, affordable, and stylish.

Marking the Lincoln Mark III

Meaning “cut” in the French language, coupe is one of the body styles of cars and vehicles. It has a close-coupled interior that offers two seats or 2 + 2 seating. The latter means that there is space for two people in the front and two more in the rear as well. Starting the 1960s, the term coupe has been used exclusively to fixed-roof models. If one would go back in history, you would see that the term itself had been used during the 1950s to refer to convertible models and this term, coupe, was used as “convertible coupes” when referring to that type of vehicle. Of course, there have been many variations with regards to this car body style. There are automobile makers who offer these sporting two doors, four doors, or even five doors for hatchback coupes.

One coupe that is running under the Lincoln brand and name is the Lincoln Mark III. It is Lincoln’s personal luxury coupe that was sold in the United States and the rest of North American starting from 1969 up until 1971. The name of this vehicle has brought about confusion for there have been two cars that also held the same name, well, almost. There is the Continental Mark III, and another one from Lincoln.

During the design and production stage of the Lincoln Mark III, it was intended so as to be able to compete with the Cadillac El Dorado which held a new front wheel drive. The Lincoln Mark III, upon introduction, made its way at the top end of the personal luxury car market. It was priced higher and better appointed. This vehicle shared some features that were just like its competitor, the Cadillac El Dorado. Both vehicles were actually based on the underpinnings of another car in the same parent company’s range. Also, both coupes held mechanical and engine components that were very much identical. On the other hand, the Lincoln Mark III was still unique for it exuded a more massive, taller, and heavier aura and look. It was actually almost 300 pounds heavier than the Cadillac El Dorado.

The Lincoln Mark III was unmistakably a Lincoln. The styling was done with the Lincoln design in mind. It was square, was more upright looking, had the typical Lincoln grille, had smooth doors to cover its headlights, and held the typical Continental fake spare-tire bulge on the rear deck.

http://www.partsship.com/ has in its stock all Lincoln equipment needs as well as top of the line Lincoln car parts like AC condensers, engine parts and more. This online store boasts of top caliber parts and accessories for all Lincoln models. Lincoln Parts and Car Parts also guarantees its customer base that its product line up holds reliable, dependable, and top performance parts.

For those Americans in massive amounts of credit card debt , they might wonder if the big banks are willing to work with them regarding their debts. The answer to this question varies from case to case. Consumers should know that thousands of consumers have been able to negotiate debts with creditors sometimes by themselves and other times with the help of debt relief professionals.

Unsecured debt such as credit card debt can be settled. The reason being there is leverage involved in secured debts such as a car or home where assets can be repossessed or foreclosed. This means creditors are able to resell the repossessed assets and regain some capital as opposed to unsecured debt.

In certain situations consumers can negotiate interest rates, payment plans, or total debt amounts regarding credit card debt. Many creditors have phone lines designated for negotiating debts. Unfortunately without the assistance of professional debt negotiators this process can be extremely difficult and generate disappointing results.

Fortunately there is an entire industry dedicated to negotiating and settling credit card debt. This industry is known widely as debt settlement. Debt settlement companies work with various creditors on a consumer’s behalf to lower overall credit card debt amounts sometimes to as much as 50%.

This process does have an effect on one’s credit score, but consumers should weigh the consequences against the benefits when debating professional debt relief. In 24 to 36 months a consumer can be out of credit card debt when enrolling in a successful debt settlement program. In a settlement program consumers will make monthly payments to a settlement company and the settlement company will in turn make payments on behalf of the consumer.

Consumers considering professional debt help should speak with a debt relief specialist before enrollment to ensure debt settlement is right for them.

Total Debt Relief offers a free debt consultation at their company website: www.totaldebtrelief.net/

Used Cars For Sale On eBay

There are thousands of used cars for sale on eBay every single day. In fact, eBay Motors is the most profitable sales division on eBay and naturally there are many entrepreneurs who are interested in jumping into this market. For instance, eBay claims it sells an SUV every nine seconds and is the biggest online car dealer in America, exceeding the traditional car companies. In fact, there are 15 million cars sold over the Internet each year – and growing.

The recent rapid growth of the consignment business model has made the used car market even more enticing. Many sellers are able to sell cars they have never even seen and with no more risk than the cost of the auction listing. Some negotiators even persuade the car owner to pay for the ad, thereby risking no more than their time.

The biggest single issue for this business model is the trust of prospective buyers. After all, paying thousands or tens of thousands of dollars for a car sight unseen is an awesome leap of faith. Even buying for a plane ticket to go see a car before paying causes buyers to be uncomfortable.

The best way sellers can overcome this fear is to use an escrow service. The one chosen by eBay is Escrow.com, which handles eBay auctions in the US and Canada.

An escrow service acts as a neutral third party. In an exchange of merchandise, the buyer sends his money to Escrow.com and the seller ships the product to the buyer. The buyer usually has two days to inspect his purchase, and if he is happy, he notifies the excrow company who releases the money to the seller, minus its fee. If the buyer is dissatisfied, he returns the undamaged merchandise to the seller, and after the seller receives his merchandise back (in satisfactory condition), the escrow company returns the buyer’s money. Thus both sides in the transaction are protected. The buyer almost always pays the fees for this, although sometimes buyer and seller split the cost.

Escrow.com has created its “Vehicle Services Division” specifically for dealing with the used cars, trucks, SUVs and almost anything else with wheels and a motor. The buyer can have a 160 point inspection performed before agreeing to the purchase. This is an inexpensive service and certainly will save the buyer any headaches. The buyer pays a $125 fee that is non-refundable The seller is contacted and the inspection is carried out The buyer receives a report The buyer chooses to go ahead with the purchase – or not

Another choice for the buyer is to deposit his payment with Escrow.com and then take delivery of the vehicle. The seller ships the car after he knows the money is secure with the escrow company. The seller must provide tracking information, which is verified by Escrow.com.

The buyer has between one and 30 days to thoroughly inspect his new purchase (the period is negotiated between the two parties ahead of time). If this time expires and the escrow company has not heard from the buyer, it assumes he is happy and gives the purchase price to the seller.

The buyer may return his vehicle if he isn’t happy and sometimes buyers and sellers work out partial payment agreements, the buyer being satisfied with some parts of the transaction, but not with others. If a dispute arises, it is settled by the American Arbitration Association.

The fee for this service is: $0 – $7,500 = value of vehicle: $125 $7,500.01 to $15,000: $170 $15,000.01 to $30,000: $200 $30,000.01 to $50,000: $275 $50,000+ = 6% of the value

Once both parties have agreed, the title transfer process begins and Escrow.com will guarantee this too, for a fee of $95. Title transfers are handled by Centerpoint Diversified Services which works in all 50 states. The fee, naturally, doesn’t include any transfer costs – it is only insurance that the title will be expedited to the satisfaction of both parties.

Escrow.com also offers a service that will ship cars almost anywhere in the world and will gather an auto history report to inform sellers if their new chariot has been salvaged or stolen, suffered flood or hail damage, been in a fire or accident, has had an odometer rollback or has been used as a police car, a rental or a taxi.

Anyone considering offering used cars for sale on eBay would be well advised to thoroughly learn the services available through Escrow om and offer those to prospective buyers. The trust factor will skyrocket and your chances of completing sales will dramatically increase.

Buying a New Computer… Or Car… on the Internet

For over two decades, Dell, Inc. has been wildly successful at bypassing the traditional stores and selling computers directly to consumers, custom-assembled according to a selection of options. The promise of convenience and savings, along with Dell’s strong company reputation and their backbone of customer service have helped ease consumer fears of buying a relatively expensive product sight unseen. Gateway and other computer makers have since embraced the online medium and are now enjoying a similar success at a varying degree. It won’t be long before buying a new car online is not going to be much different than ordering a new computer. Some German manufacturers have already caught on to this emerging trend. A BMW enthusiast, for example, could configure and order a new M6 months before its official entry into the US market. He or she could then track its progress through the manufacturing facility online similarly to the way one would track the progress of one’s new Dell. However, buying a new car online sight unseen is not a very risky proposition. One knows what one is getting and there is franchise dealer and a manufacturer standing behind it.

Buying a Used Car on the Internet – a New Breed of Shoppers

What about the used car market online? How can consumers quantify the risk they are taking buying a used car sight unseen to make sure it is justified by the savings of such purchase?

Historically, conventional used car buyers have been able to kick its tires, take it for a spin, and haggle over the asking price of the car they like at their local dealer since the invention of the automobile. Because of the internet, a considerable number of these “conventional” used car buyers have found a myriad of ways to harness the power of the ever expanding online automotive resources and tools available at their disposal to make informed buying decisions.

It is from those online savvy buyers that a new breed has emerged – those who buy their used cars online, sight unseen. Although they represent a relatively small portion of the used car buyers, these brave souls see an unmatched advantage and find ways to minimize the risks. But what’s in it for them, one might ask? Simple, actually: selection and price. The internet offers easy access to a vast selection of vehicles worldwide – online car portals, classifieds, conventional dealers with online presence and pure online-only outfits, online used car brokers, to name but a few. Since most of them are looking for a specific vehicle, their chance of finding “the one” is far greater online compared to the confines of their local area.

Needless to say, virtually all of them are looking for a bargain. Our brave souls take risks, but these are justified, at least in their eyes, because of the savings they realize by utilizing the online channel. How do they do it? They, too, are well-armed with the online tools they need to make intelligent buying decisions. Here is how these online tools help them through the decision-making and buying steps of the process.

Fair Market Value

Determining whether a particular car is a bargain is a function of understanding its fair market value given its condition in the context of the current supply and demand. For the non-economists, of course, there are a number of excellent online market valuation sources available. Kelley Blue Book, NADAGuides, Edmunds.com are some of the most widely used car pricing providers. They all base estimates on a large number of recorded transactions and provide appraisal adjustments for the year, make, model, mileage, options, condition and even local market trends. As their appraisal algorithms differ slightly from each other, the estimates may vary, so checking more than one source is recommended. There are three major price levels: trade-in (or wholesale), private party and retail. Trade-in is what one would expect to get from a dealer for one’s used car – it is the lowest of the three averages, but it’s important to know as a baseline. Private party is what one would expect to get if one sells a car to another person, and retail is what one would pay for that car at a used car dealership.

Third Party Vehicle History Reports

In addition to the seller’s honest word and availability of service records our prudent innovators tap into the same third party vehicle history report providers the rest of the used car buyers use. CARFAX and Experian’s AutoCheck, initially serving the automotive professionals only, have been available to the general public for a number of years now. For $24.99 CARFAX offers 30 days and AutoCheck offers 60 days of unlimited vehicle history reports. These provide extensive reporting on the vehicles’ recorded history: date and type of registration and renewal events, as well as checking for recorded incidents, odometer rollbacks, junk, salvage, rebuilt titles, insurance loss, theft, lemon buybacks, etc. Many dealers realize the convincing power of stating the recorded facts and now offer free vehicle history reports for the cars they sell.

Car Inspections

Independent vehicle appraisal/inspection services with online presence have also seen a boost in their business. For $99.95, CARCHEX offers to give any automobile a 155-point pre-purchase auto inspection almost anywhere in the USA. Not too high a price for peace of mind, especially if it can save one from having to deal with surprise repairs. For half of this amount, one can find a mechanic in the local directory who can check out the car and even take it for a test drive on one’s behalf and then fax a detailed report. Nevertheless, some of the more thrifty buyers have found ways to save themselves the nominal fees mechanics charge without depriving themselves of the peace of mind of a pre-sale inspection. Say, I live in Boston and happened to find a 1974 BMW 2002tii that I really wanted all the way in San Diego. Now, I would definitely want the car inspected prior to buying it. My thrifty side, however, wants to avoid the $150 fee a local company would charge me to inspect the vehicle. The solution? I would ask a fellow member of the BMW enthusiast community who lives in San Diego to take a look at the car for me. There are plenty of BMW forum members that would be more than happy to offer their time and expertise to a fellow east coast bimmerphile in need.

Shipping

There is a sea of car shipping companies that would gladly bring our pioneers their newly acquired vehicles home at a reasonable price. One example, Dependable Auto Shippers operate a fleet of state-of-the-art, satellite tracked vehicle shipping transporters, which allow one to track one’s car while it’s on its way much like one would track a package. Yet, a healthy number of this new breed of used cars buyers opt for driving their new purchase home on their own instead. It’s cheaper, it’s faster, and admittedly, it’s much more exciting. Sellers specializing in online sales of this kind have also adapted to accommodate the demands of this new kind of used car buyer. Airport pickups for our weary yet eager buyers are more or less industry standard, these days. Sellers specializing exclusively in online sales, providing a hot meal for their ‘guests’ at the family table before they depart on their voyage home, is not unheard of.

Although buying a used car online sight unseen is not for the faint of heart, it is a growing phenomenon, which if executed carefully, could be a very rewarding experience for all parties involved.
